Where to stay

Where to stay for the Rome Marathon 2027: best areas

Rome, Italy · Sun 14 Mar 2027

WhichMarathon guide · Updated 18 Oct 2026

Rome's centre is compact, so you can stay somewhere beautiful and still walk to the start. Remember that overseas runners also need a Runcard and a medical certificate to race in Italy.

Where the race starts and finishes

The race starts on Via dei Fori Imperiali, by the Colosseum, and finishes in the same historic centre. Check the official site for the exact 2027 finish area.

Book a room you can cancel. Race-weekend hotels fill up and get pricier, often before entries or ballot results are confirmed. A free-cancellation room holds today's price. If your plans change, cancel it. Every hotel link on this page shows free-cancellation rooms only.

The best areas to stay

1. Monti Right by the Colosseum, with small streets full of cafés and restaurants. Walk to the start.
Race morning: Walk, about 5 to 15 minutes.

3. Centro Storico (Pantheon and Piazza Navona) The heart of old Rome, with the sights on your doorstep. Pricier, and a longer walk to the start.
Race morning: Walk, about 20 to 30 minutes.

4. Near Termini Often the best value, and the airport train arrives here. Choose your street carefully, as some around the station are less pleasant at night.
Race morning: Metro B, two stops to Colosseo.

Race morning

The centre is closed to traffic on race morning, so plan to walk or take the Metro. Most big races also ask you to collect your bib in person before race day, so arrive at least the day before.
